The death of MegaMan
The creator of Megaman (Capcom), Keiji Inafune has announced his resignation as the Head of R&D Management Group, Consumer Games R&D Division and Contents Management Division.

What a sad day! Does this mean the death of the MegaMan titles? I've played MegaMan ever since I was 6 and have always dreamed about working for this stream.

Building mobile apps in another direction...
This article is pretty interesting. The Flow app for Andriod lets people in the developing world view working and broken water pumps. The UN, US Agency for International Development and other development groups install water pumps in developing worlds so that people have access to clean water. The problem is, approx 30-45% of these water pumps (citation needed) break within 10 years time.

How Flow works - people who come in contact with the water pumps manually snap pictures, log in their GPS coordinates and complete questionnaires that show how well the pump is working.
Examples of other mobiles apps that are aimed in the same direction are:
Project Noah (http://www.networkedorganisms.com/) - a tool for nature lovers and citizen scientists to mark spottings of interesting organisims
SeeClickFix (http://www.seeclickfix.com/how_seeclickfix_works) - this tool allows anyone to track and report non-emercency issues around the world via the Internet. Examples would be cracked sidewalks, broken windows, traffic jams
Mobile apps are hot. I remember my team mate from my class being obsessed in creating an iPhone app. It didn't matter *what* the app was.... he would get an idea from just about anywhere in any situation. When we were eating and I wasn't sure where the closest sushi place was, he thought it would be great to have an iPhone app that located the closest restaurants based on what types of food or specific menu dishes you wanted (as opposed to the genre of the restaurant). When we were studying Linear Algebra, and doing the revised simplex method (omg! this was just a term ago too >.<) he asked, how worthwhile would it be if I made an iPhone app that helped do the revised simplex method on this system of equations? Even my friends who aren't in CS are asking how they can go about creating an app. I like apps that take a unique approach to things... kinda like Flow. You can't argue with a company that created an app to solve a worldly issue, ya know? I want to think of a totally twisted and crazy idea for an app... oooh, wish I could have crazy brainstorming sessions like I did during my coop term.
Totally off topic but I think people just need to sit n' chill from school for a bit and think of things that aren't so cut and paste. :( I want to dedicate 3-5 hours/week with different groups of ppl from different disciplines to think of crazy ideas. I think that would be awesome.
